Dark Knight\u2019s sec\u00adond out\u00ading a rous\u00ading adventure<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

As a Bat\u00adman fan, I hold a spe\u00adcial place in my heart for most of the big-screen adap\u00adta\u00adtions of the Caped Crusader\u2019s fight to clean up Gotham. Bat\u00adman Returns, despite its prob\u00adlems, is at the top of the list in terms of favorite aes\u00adthet\u00adics in a Bat\u00adman film. That said, I wasn\u2019t sure if I felt the same affec\u00adtion for the game version.<\/span><\/p>\n

The sto\u00adry is the same as the film: You, as the Dark Knight, bat\u00adtle the nefar\u00adi\u00adous Pen\u00adguin and his equal\u00adly fool\u00adish part\u00adner Cat\u00adwoman as they join forces to take over Gotham and wreak hav\u00adoc. Because you are tech\u00adni\u00adcal\u00adly supe\u00adri\u00ador (and rich\u00ader) than your foes, you have an arse\u00adnal at your dis\u00adpos\u00adal that helps you take out the crim\u00adi\u00adnal ele\u00adment that is doing the bid\u00adding of the med\u00addle\u00adsome bird man and trou\u00adble\u00adsome minx. Real\u00adly, if you\u2019ve watched the superb film, you shouldn\u2019t be at a loss here as to what you need to do. It fol\u00adlows the plot exact\u00adly, includ\u00ading the encoun\u00adters that Bat\u00adman has with less\u00ader hench\u00admen. Being a game based on a movie prop\u00ader\u00adty some\u00adtimes has its perks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Con\u00adtrol\u00adling the Dark Knight is much like you would expect from watch\u00ading the movie. Bat\u00adman is easy to guide around, though there are a few spots where the direc\u00adtions and what to do could be a lit\u00adtle more clear\u00adly point\u00aded out. How\u00adev\u00ader, Bat\u00adman is flu\u00adid and moves quick\u00adly enough that get\u00adting around Gotham to take on the Pen\u00adguin and Cat\u00adwoman isn\u2019t much of a problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

Returns, fore\u00admost, is stun\u00adning visu\u00adal\u00adly. Much like the film, the game\u2019s graph\u00adics are top-notch and evoke that well-known Tim Bur\u00adton feel. The graph\u00adics are so well done that it almost appears that they were tak\u00aden direct\u00adly from the movie and insert\u00aded into the game. The col\u00adors are rich and pop when nec\u00ades\u00adsary in the game\u2019s col\u00ador palette, though it doesn\u2019t stray far from the movie\u2019s mut\u00aded col\u00ador\u00ading too much.<\/span><\/p>\n

Much like the graph\u00adics, the sound is also spot on and close to the movie\u2019s back\u00ading tracks. Of course, there are a few appro\u00adpri\u00ada\u00adtions because you\u2019re not get\u00adting a full orches\u00adtra with com\u00adpos\u00ader Dan\u00adny Elf\u00adman on the SNES<\/span> chip, but the music is suf\u00adfi\u00adcient and gets the job done.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bat\u00adman Returns is a decent adven\u00adture set to the tune of the pop\u00adu\u00adlar sequel on the sil\u00adver screen. It\u2019s a paint-by-the-num\u00adbers sequel with gor\u00adgeous, rich visu\u00adals that some\u00adhow man\u00adage to do the movie ver\u00adsion jus\u00adtice in the 16-bit era. It\u2019s com\u00adfort\u00adable and easy going, so you\u2019re not miss\u00ading any\u00adthing if you\u2019re look\u00ading for the best fol\u00adlow up that fea\u00adtures Bat\u00adman. The Bat, the Cat and the Pen\u00adguin have a good adap\u00adta\u00adtion on their hands with this 16-bit recre\u00adation of Gotham.<\/span><\/p>\n
