Nin\u00adja copy fails Black Manta<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Peo\u00adple were appar\u00adent\u00adly wild about nin\u00adjas in the \u201980s. Real\u00adly wild. I\u2019m guess\u00ading this because it seems to be a mil\u00adlion and one games about nin\u00adjas that were made in the 1980s. These were all made with var\u00adi\u00adous degrees of suc\u00adcess in get\u00adting the point across about the nin\u00adja expe\u00adri\u00adence. Out of the coterie there were two that stood out: Nin\u00adja Gaiden, a time\u00adless clas\u00adsic in the way of the nin\u00adja arts; and, Wrath of the Black Man\u00adta. Note that we did not use any sort of kind trib\u00adute for the lat\u00adter. There is myr\u00adi\u00adad rea\u00adsons for this distinction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wrath of the Black Man\u00adta is your stan\u00addard adven\u00adture game cen\u00adtered on find\u00ading miss\u00ading chil\u00addren in New York City, the appar\u00adent bas\u00adtion of all evil and where the most heinous crimes take place in the video game world. A drug fiend named El Toro is hell\u00adbent on turn\u00ading these chil\u00addren into addicts and it\u2019s up to you and your nin\u00adja skills to make Toro get down or lay down with the War on Drugs.\u2122<\/span><\/p>\n

The premise is run of the mill, the con\u00adtrols con\u00adfus\u00ading and clunky and the action extreme\u00adly repet\u00adi\u00adtive. The back\u00adgrounds do change from lev\u00adel to lev\u00adel and there is a lot of ground to cov\u00ader. But, all you\u2019re going to do is walk around search\u00ading ware\u00adhous\u00ades for chil\u00addren and gang\u00ading up on infor\u00admants from the car\u00adtel to get infor\u00adma\u00adtion. What should be an absolute clean sweep is a clus\u00adter because get\u00adting that infor\u00adma\u00adtion with\u00adout being killed from ridicu\u00adlous hits is a nightmare.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact that most of the action is ripped off from the infi\u00adnite\u00adly bet\u00adter and more inter\u00adest\u00ading Nin\u00adja Gaiden doesn\u2019t help here because you\u2019re going to die a lot from ter\u00adri\u00adble jump\u00ading and those afore\u00admen\u00adtioned hits from ene\u00admies. The sound\u00adtrack also does Man\u00adta no favors as it\u2019s just bare\u00adly ser\u00advice\u00adable. Even the art is ripped off from some\u00adwhere else: Word on those mean streets of NYC<\/span> is that some of the art was tak\u00aden straight from the book \u201cHow to Draw Comics the Mar\u00advel Way\u201d when the Japan\u00adese ver\u00adsion was port\u00aded to the U.S. I\u2019m guess\u00ading they thought no one would notice, but it goes over with the sub\u00adtle\u00adty of a ton of bricks. Speak\u00ading of a lack of sub\u00adtle\u00adty, the obvi\u00adous \u201cstay away from drugs, kids, if you want to live\u201d mes\u00adsage and the hit-you-over-the-head irony of char\u00adac\u00adters named Tiny (a in no way sur\u00adpris\u00ading\u00adly large boss char\u00adac\u00adter who tries to stomp you to death in the first lev\u00adel) means you\u2019re in for a long ride with this whether you want to or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

The key to this bat\u00adtle is, if you want to play a nin\u00adja adven\u00adture just play the released at the same time Nin\u00adja Gaiden. Gaiden is far supe\u00adri\u00ador in every way and has more appeal in terms of sto\u00adry. Wrath of the Black Man\u00adta is the poor man\u2019s Nin\u00adja Gaiden and is in no way stealthy enough in its sub\u00adtle\u00adty to earn any sort of title of nin\u00adja anything.<\/span><\/p>\n
