Dur\u00ading that time, I played 1942 in the arcade and on the <span class=\"caps\">NES<\/span> and walked away from this expe\u00adri\u00adence with some valu\u00adable infor\u00adma\u00adtion: 1. The first game in a series may or may not guar\u00adan\u00adtee future suc\u00adcess; and, 2. The cre\u00adators of some of our favorite games had to cut their teeth on low-tier games before they received the big breaks that made them what they are today. One of those games is&nbsp;1942.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">1942 is a ver\u00adti\u00adcal-scrolling shoot\u00ader that takes place on the Pacif\u00adic front of World War <span class=\"caps\">II<\/span>. You take con\u00adtrol of a P\u201138 Light\u00adning plane assigned to go to Tokyo and destroy the Impe\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal Air Force&nbsp;fleet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Game\u00adplay of 1942 is sim\u00adple: You can move either ver\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly or hor\u00adi\u00adzon\u00adtal\u00adly. Con\u00adsist\u00ading of 32 stages, the P\u201138 will be chal\u00adlenged by Ki-61s, <span class=\"caps\">A6M<\/span> Zeros, and Ki-48s with a long-range bomber known as <span class=\"caps\">G8N<\/span> as lev\u00adel boss\u00ades. If you time your attacks right, some planes will drop upgrad\u00aded fire\u00adpow\u00ader or an escort team of two small\u00ader fight\u00ader planes to com\u00adbat the relent\u00adless assault from planes that <span class=\"caps\">WILL<\/span> attempt to knock you out of the skies, espe\u00adcial\u00adly if you\u2019re just tak\u00ading off from your air\u00adcraft carrier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">While I liked 1942, there are some issues that annoyed me. Tim\u00ading of move\u00adments, includ\u00ading the ver\u00adti\u00adcal drops and air rolls, must be pre\u00adcise because of the high chance of being shot down by ene\u00admy planes. Also, you must watch for attack\u00ading planes in front and behind as the Ki-48s are mas\u00adter\u00adful at get\u00adting the unsus\u00adpect\u00aded into close-area shootouts, which will reduce the num\u00adber of lives quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-588\" src=\"http:\/\/gaminginsurrection.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Score-3-5-retrograde.jpg\" alt width=\"90\" height=\"148\">The music qual\u00adi\u00adty of 1942 is an acquired taste as the repeat\u00aded use of a snare drum made me think that Cap\u00adcom phoned in a lack\u00adlus\u00adter drum beat, which made me turn the vol\u00adume down to con\u00adtin\u00adue play\u00ading. The chal\u00adlenge is decent since you will be on your toes to avoid ene\u00admy fire non\u00adstop. It has strong replay val\u00adue and would be a great time-killer as a nos\u00adtal\u00adgia trip for arcade vet\u00ader\u00adans. Also, it\u2019s a great exam\u00adple for those who want to know how side-scrolling games played a major impact in the gam\u00ading&nbsp;world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">1942 serves not only as an icon in gaming\u2019s hall of fame but also dou\u00adbles as one of Capcom\u2019s entries into the gam\u00ading world. It helps that 1942 was the start of look\u00ading at Cap\u00adcom as an up-and-com\u00ading game com\u00adpa\u00adny want\u00adi\u00adng to expand beyond its home of Osa\u00adka,&nbsp;Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Fun facts:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The P\u201138, Ki-61, <span class=\"caps\">A6M<\/span> and Ki-48 were actu\u00adal war planes used heav\u00adi\u00adly in the Pacif\u00adic Con\u00adflict between the U.S. and Japan. The com\u00adpa\u00adnies who built them \u2014 Lock\u00adheed Mar\u00adtin, Kawasa\u00adki, and Mit\u00adsubishi \u2014 are well-estab\u00adlished in the defense indus\u00adtry and con\u00adtin\u00adue to play vital roles in var\u00adi\u00adous areas of aero\u00adspace technology.<br>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">1942 was Yoshi\u00adki Okamoto\u2019s debut game for Cap\u00adcom. He was also the orig\u00adi\u00adnal game design\u00ader of Konami\u2019s Gyruss. Because of inter\u00adnal dis\u00adputes involv\u00ading pay, he was fired from Kon\u00ada\u00admi.
