Puz\u00adzle Bob\u00adble\u2019s break\u00adout hit<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bub\u00adble Bob\u00adble isn\u2019t super famous last I checked, but I learned who Bub and Bob were by the time I fin\u00adished their first puz\u00adzle effort for the Super NES<\/span>, the mid-90s appro\u00adpri\u00adate\u00adly named Bust-A-Move. <\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s much fun and mirth to be had in the bub\u00adble-pop\u00adping title. There\u2019s not much sto\u00adry oth\u00ader than Bub and Bob are pop\u00adping bub\u00adbles to save a friend, who is trapped at the end (lev\u00adel 100). Once their friend is saved, that\u2019s it. But, that\u2019s assum\u00ading you can make it that far. <\/span><\/p>\n

Bust-A-Move is incred\u00adi\u00adbly sim\u00adple to play but hard to mas\u00adter. The con\u00adcept is easy to under\u00adstand: aim a launch\u00ader and match three like-col\u00adored bub\u00adbles. The bub\u00adbles will fall off the play\u00ading field, clear\u00ading space and rows so that you can work toward clear\u00ading fur\u00adther bub\u00adbles. After a cer\u00adtain num\u00adber are cleared, the ceil\u00ading of the well low\u00aders, inch\u00ading clos\u00ader to a vis\u00adi\u00adble line. Once the line is crossed with a bub\u00adble, the game is over. Basi\u00adcal\u00adly, it\u2019s reverse Tetris with bub\u00adbles instead of lines. The trick\u00adi\u00adness in mas\u00adter\u00ading the game comes in pop\u00adping the bub\u00adbles. There are dif\u00adfer\u00adent tech\u00adniques to achiev\u00ading the results that you want, but it real\u00adly comes down to know\u00ading how to aim and learn\u00ading the fabled bankshot off the side of the well.<\/span><\/p>\n

With its sim\u00adplic\u00adi\u00adty in learn\u00ading, Bust-A-Move quick\u00adly dis\u00adtin\u00adguish\u00ades itself as fun to play. I request\u00aded the game for my 14th birth\u00adday, and I\u2019ve had a blast play\u00ading the orig\u00adi\u00adnal since. There are oth\u00ader games in the series, but this one is the best out of all of the sequels and spin\u00adoffs of the series. The con\u00adtrols aren\u2019t too stiff, though some\u00adtimes I have com\u00adplaints about the par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar way a bub\u00adble bounces or sticks a lit\u00adtle too eas\u00adi\u00adly to the first bub\u00adble it comes close to. Yet, the con\u00adtrols aren\u2019t horrible. <\/span><\/p>\n

The sim\u00adple theme also shows in the graph\u00adics. Bust-A-Move is one of the bright\u00adest and cutest games I\u2019ve ever played. The col\u00adors pop and while you\u2019re using col\u00adored bub\u00adbles, they don\u2019t nec\u00ades\u00adsar\u00adi\u00adly inter\u00adfere with the back\u00adground graph\u00adics, which could make for a con\u00adfus\u00ading play field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bust-A-Move also gets a nod for its atten\u00adtion paid to oth\u00ader modes such as Chal\u00adlenge and the two-play\u00ader bub\u00adble pop\u00adping. Chal\u00adlenge is fun and a good test of skills: You\u2019re tasked with pop\u00adping as many bub\u00adbles as you can before it\u2019s game over. It\u2019s hard to pop a lot if you\u2019re new to the game, but as your skills progress, you can and will see a dif\u00adfer\u00adence in how long you man\u00adage to last. The two-play\u00ader mode is fun also, because you can either play against the com\u00adput\u00ader or against anoth\u00ader human play\u00ader. Any game that gives me the option to play two-play\u00ader against the com\u00adput\u00ader auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly gets a nod because that injects longevi\u00adty into a title immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a decent amount of depth to Bust-A-Move and it cer\u00adtain\u00adly makes for an inter\u00adest\u00ading puz\u00adzle dis\u00adtrac\u00adtion on the SNES<\/span>. It\u2019s worth explor\u00ading the bub\u00adble-pop\u00adping world with the orig\u00adi\u00adnal bub\u00adble eliminator.<\/span><\/p>\n
