It takes a thief<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You know, once in a while, a game comes along that is just full of fun stuff and guilty<\/span><\/p>\n

plea\u00adsures that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Ladies and gen\u00adtle\u00admen, this is that game. Thief is a game that when I first heard about the orig\u00adi\u00adnal \u2014 way back when it was only avail\u00adable for PC<\/span> \u2014 I thought it was one of those games I would have liked to play but didn\u2019t think it would be fun. Man, was I ever wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thief places you in the role of mas\u00adter thief Gar\u00adrett as he works his way through a city run by a greedy and blood\u00adthirsty Baron and his guard known as the WATCH<\/span>. Use the shad\u00adows to your advan\u00adtage and tru\u00adly make what is theirs \u2026 yours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eidos\/Montreal and Square ENIX<\/span> put forth a great effort in mak\u00ading this game a real\u00adi\u00adty and bring\u00ading it to home sys\u00adtems. Thief is actu\u00adal\u00adly the fourth incar\u00adna\u00adtion of the series, set dur\u00ading the time peri\u00adod around the same time as the Black Plague, I think; they don\u2019t real\u00adly tell you when it\u2019s set or where it is rel\u00ade\u00advant to any time peri\u00adod. I only say dur\u00ading the time of the Black Plague because of the dis\u00adease that runs ram\u00adpant called the gloom, which is a lot like it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stealth game\u00adplay is the main rea\u00adson why I\u2019m a huge fan of this game. I like the fact that it\u2019s a major part of the game and there is an achieve\u00adment for mak\u00ading it through the game unseen. There is the rat\u00ading sys\u00adtem where I seem to always strad\u00addle the line between ghost and oppor\u00adtunist in my quest to see if I\u2019m still as sneaky in stealth games as I claim to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

As of press time, I haven\u2019t fin\u00adished Thief but the sto\u00adry and the free roam\u00ading aspect are awe\u00adsome. At times, I wan\u00adder from the sto\u00adry to explore, roam aim\u00adless\u00adly and rob peo\u00adple blind just like in real life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The city and the char\u00adac\u00adters are beau\u00adti\u00adful\u00adly designed and ren\u00addered but it seems to be miss\u00ading some\u00adthing. The music \u2014 as far as atmos\u00adphere goes \u2014 is OK<\/span> but it seems that you can\u2019t real\u00adly hear it. And, a lot of times the inter\u00adac\u00adtions between char\u00adac\u00adters is almost a joke because you can some\u00adtimes bare\u00adly hear what a NPC<\/span> or your\u00adself are say\u00ading. Appar\u00adent\u00adly, sub\u00adti\u00adtles are a bit of a must to catch every\u00adthing being said.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not quite sure how the old Gar\u00adrett match\u00ades up to the new Gar\u00adrett since I haven\u2019t played the PC<\/span> titles but hope\u00adful\u00adly it\u2019s not too far off. I real\u00adly do enjoy this game, but it seems that it isn\u2019t real\u00adly all that long, at least not when you get into the sto\u00adry-spe\u00adcif\u00adic mis\u00adsions. There is still a free roam ele\u00adment there but there are also points where you can\u2019t go back and that seems like it\u2019s pun\u00adish\u00ading the play\u00ader and slap\u00adping you say\u00ading, \u201cYou want to explore?! NOW<\/span>!? The fate of the world is at stake!!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Thief is a real\u00adly good stealth, make-you-feel-guilty-in-a-good-way sort of game and should def\u00adi\u00adnite\u00adly be played by all. The fact that it\u2019s the fourth game but also a reboot of the series is fine, but the fans of the old\u00ader games may have a prob\u00adlem with the dif\u00adfer\u00adences. Sound issues aside, this is a hell of a steal.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
