\nKnock\u00adout Kings packs a punch for PSOne<\/span><\/p>\n

Ah, Elec\u00adtron\u00adic Arts aka Crunch Time World Head\u00adquar\u00adters, how gamers love thee (sar\u00adcasm insert\u00aded). Begin\u00adning in 1995, there was\u00adn\u2019t a sports game, col\u00adle\u00adgiate or pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal, that was not giv\u00aden EA\u2019s sports label \u201cthe game amongst sports games.\u201d When you saw offi\u00adcial\u00adly licensed sport game com\u00admer\u00adcials in the late \u201990s to ear\u00adly 2000s, nine times out of 10 they would be from EA<\/span> Sports. I have played some titles in EA\u2019s Mad\u00adden series but my main expe\u00adri\u00adence with EA<\/span> Sports came dur\u00ading my junior year in col\u00adlege when I played an EA<\/span> game that fea\u00adtured the best of pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal box\u00ading to deter\u00admine who was tru\u00adly the undis\u00adput\u00aded best amongst them. Knock\u00adout Kings 2000 stepped into the ring and put on a show.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Knock\u00adout Kings 2000, you get to play as one of 25 leg\u00adendary pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal box\u00aders such as Mar\u00advelous Mar\u00advin Hagler, \u201cSmokin\u201d Joe Fra\u00adzier, Son\u00adny Lis\u00adton, and my favorite, the \u201cGreat\u00adest of all Time\u201d Muham\u00admad Ali. In addi\u00adtion to these clas\u00adsic box\u00aders, you can cre\u00adate your own box\u00ader like I did with box\u00aders named \u201cBus\u00adta\u00adjawzs\u201d or \u201cCrush\u00ader Bear\u201d. Depend\u00ading on which option you choose, you\u2019ll be fight\u00ading at well-known sport venues such as Cae\u00adsar\u2019s Palace and Great West\u00adern Col\u00adi\u00adse\u00adum in either the Cham\u00adpi\u00adonship, Slugfest or Train\u00ading modes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Despite EA\u2019s attempt to faith\u00adful\u00adly ren\u00adder each pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal box\u00ader\u2019s and venue, the graph\u00adics are of PSOne qual\u00adi\u00adty. It can be dif\u00adfi\u00adcult to see box\u00aders unless you have excel\u00adlent mas\u00adtery over the game\u2019s cam\u00adera sys\u00adtem, which brings out the scenes in bet\u00adter quality. <\/span><\/p>\n


\nThe con\u00adtrols in Knock\u00adout Kings 2000 are sim\u00adple and do not require com\u00adpli\u00adcat\u00aded move\u00adments unlike oth\u00ader fight\u00ading games. The super punch is very easy to per\u00adform, which is a bless\u00ading since I\u2019m a but\u00adton mash\u00ader at heart. I can say with con\u00adfi\u00addence that after a few bouts, I became a new world heavy\u00adweight cham\u00adpi\u00adon going straight to train\u00ading to main\u00adtain my com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive edge. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>EA<\/span> did excel\u00adlent in the music depart\u00adment with each mode hav\u00ading a unique theme for train\u00ading and var\u00adi\u00adous music styles for the Cham\u00adpi\u00adonship and Slugfest modes. I espe\u00adcial\u00adly like the \u201950s-like gui\u00adtar entrance theme and a hip-hop hor\u00adror mix that brought fear to my oppo\u00adnents\u2019 hearts when I used my \u201cCrush\u00ader Bear\u201d char\u00adac\u00adter. The sound was top qual\u00adi\u00adty, and EA<\/span> gave upcom\u00ading artists such as Androyd, Alien Fash\u00adion Show and my per\u00adson\u00adal favorite rap\u00adper, O, a place to shine. O pro\u00advid\u00aded the main theme \u201cIn the Game\u201d as well as a music video with cameos by Hagler, Roy Jones Jr., and Floyd May\u00adweath\u00ader Jr., which was a nice touch.<\/span><\/p>\n

I like a lot about Knock\u00adout Kings 2000 but there are some prob\u00adlems. The cam\u00adera needs adjust\u00adment so the fight\u00aders can be seen prop\u00ader\u00adly but even worse the mod\u00adel\u00ading of each fight\u00ader looks like EA<\/span> rushed its pro\u00adgram\u00admers. The fight\u00aders are unrec\u00adog\u00adniz\u00adable, which is dis\u00adap\u00adpoint\u00ading. Anoth\u00ader issue that I had was in the train\u00ading ses\u00adsion where I want\u00aded to learn com\u00adbo tech\u00adniques. The train\u00ading want\u00aded to rush my learn\u00ading, result\u00ading in lit\u00adtle train\u00ading val\u00adue for my box\u00ader. My final prob\u00adlem was announc\u00ading calls. While I appre\u00adci\u00adate that respect\u00aded box\u00ading com\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtors Al Albert and Sean O\u2019Grady called the action, their tim\u00ading was off some\u00adtimes on mak\u00ading cru\u00adcial com\u00admen\u00adtary, or they were not made at all. <\/span>
\nKnock\u00adout Kings 2000 is a great sports game for the PSOne. While EA<\/span> is known for cash grabs, and low-qual\u00adi\u00adty work on their games, I believe that they found the mag\u00adic for\u00admu\u00adla for suc\u00adcess with this.<\/span><\/p>\n
