Cap\u00adcom\u2019s space opera side series sad\u00addles up<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly reviewed Plas\u00adma Sword, the sequel to Cap\u00adcom\u2019s 3D<\/span> weapon fight\u00ading game Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor. I played Plas\u00adma Sword and real\u00adly liked Cap\u00adcom\u2019s approach that com\u00adbined ele\u00adments from Star Wars with ele\u00adments of ani\u00adme and fight\u00ading games. Years lat\u00ader, hav\u00ading played games like Soul\u00adcal\u00adibur, I want\u00aded to play a fight\u00ading game with weapons. I\u2019m glad I got my hands on the first game in the series, Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor \u2014 Episode 1: Final Crusade.<\/span>
\nIn Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor, in the year 2348 humans have explored space for cen\u00adturies, allow\u00ading for reg\u00adu\u00adlar peace\u00adful and trade rela\u00adtion\u00adships with var\u00adi\u00adous alien life\u00adforms. Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, some alien species have made threats against Earth, result\u00ading in a defense project cre\u00adat\u00aded by Dr. Edward Bil\u00adstein that uses ener\u00adgy of the human mind or plas\u00adma pow\u00ader. Once the project became known, Bil\u00adstein gained fame and prof\u00adit. How\u00adev\u00ader, the Earth Fed\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion uncov\u00aders that Bil\u00adstein engaged in unlaw\u00adful human exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion dur\u00ading plas\u00adma pow\u00ader research and impris\u00adoned him in a satel\u00adlite. Four years lat\u00ader, a fed\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion base was attacked by dis\u00adci\u00adples of Bil\u00adstein known as the Fourth Empire. With the Fourth Empire\u2019s attacks toward Earth con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00ading, the Fed\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion\u2019s hopes rely on a project allow\u00ading plas\u00adma-pow\u00adered users to acti\u00advate their gifts on a whim. That pro\u00adjec\u00adt\u2019s name is Star Gladiator.<\/span>
\nStar Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor is a com\u00adplete depar\u00adture from usu\u00adal set\u00adup for fight\u00ading games like Street Fight\u00ader and Dark\u00adstalk\u00aders. Instead of using a six-but\u00adton scheme for punch\u00ades and kicks, Cap\u00adcom used a four-but\u00adton set\u00adup that resem\u00adbles Soul\u00adcal\u00adibur. You have but\u00adtons assigned for kicks, defense, and weapon attacks. I found this sim\u00adple and easy as I did not strug\u00adgle with fight mechanics. <\/span>
\nYou also have use of two counter moves called Plas\u00adma Revers\u00ades: One is called a Plas\u00adma Reflect, which allows block\u00ading of an oppo\u00adnen\u00adt\u2019s move and stun\u00adning them for a brief peri\u00adod. The oth\u00ader, Plas\u00adma Revenge, allows you to counter an oppo\u00adnen\u00adt\u2019s fast attack while you unleash your own light\u00ading attack. Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor also intro\u00adduces the Plas\u00adma Com\u00adbo Sys\u00adtem, which allows you to set\u00adup rapid attacks that, with the right tim\u00ading, can result in a tech\u00adnique called Plas\u00adma Final that inflicts major dam\u00adage. Final\u00adly, anoth\u00ader stand\u00adout fea\u00adture in Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor is the plas\u00adma strike abil\u00adi\u00adty that lets you deliv\u00ader heavy dam\u00adage, if timed per\u00adfect\u00adly on the opponent. <\/span>
\nKeep\u00ading with the mechan\u00adics, let me deliv\u00ader a safe\u00adty warn\u00ading: This game has a rotat\u00ading and hov\u00ader\u00ading are\u00adna that may cause motion sick\u00adness. With the rotat\u00ading are\u00adna, if you are knocked out of bounds, you will lose auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly. I learned a hard les\u00adson about using the Plas\u00adma Reflect and Plas\u00adma Final tech\u00adniques: Like any oth\u00ader weapon-based fight\u00ader, your tim\u00ading must be accu\u00adrate; oth\u00ader\u00adwise, your char\u00adac\u00adter will be open for a ring-out attack or Plas\u00adma Final that will end the round before you can blink. And, for those who see the Plas\u00adma Strike as an easy use any\u00adtime weapon: Plas\u00adma Strike is an impres\u00adsive move; how\u00adev\u00ader, it can only be used once per round. <\/span>
\nThe graph\u00adics and music are top tier for a 3D<\/span> fight\u00ading game from the era it was released. It looks good and tries hard but with\u00adout being over the top. The replay val\u00adue is strong and is a great show\u00adcase for the start of the 3D<\/span> weapon fight\u00ader genre. <\/span>
\nStar Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor is a clas\u00adsic 3D<\/span> fight\u00ader that showed how fight\u00ading games tran\u00adsi\u00adtioned from the arcade to the home mar\u00adket. I com\u00admend Cap\u00adcom for think\u00ading for\u00adward and not rely\u00ading on the same for\u00admu\u00adla. Star Glad\u00adi\u00ada\u00adtor is an exam\u00adple of Cap\u00adcom\u2019s bril\u00adliance in the fight\u00ading game are\u00adna and the series is long over\u00addue to return. There\u2019s cer\u00adtain\u00adly room for it in today\u2019s space.<\/span><\/p>\n
