Evil still tak\u00ading up res\u00adi\u00addence in PSOne classic<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ah, Res\u00adi\u00addent Evil, you\u2019re a plea\u00adsure and a bane of my exis\u00adtence. Cap\u00adcom\u2019s sur\u00advival hor\u00adror series has enthralled its fans and raked in mil\u00adlions of dol\u00adlars from fol\u00adlow-up install\u00adment games, a Hol\u00adly\u00adwood movie series, three CGI<\/span> ani\u00admat\u00aded movies and a poor\u00adly stream\u00ading Net\u00adflix show. It\u2019s safe to say that Cap\u00adcom has been push\u00ading Albert Wesker and com\u00adpa\u00adny hard on that big Umbrel\u00adla plan\u00adta\u00adtion. One of those gems of RE<\/span> intro\u00adduces two fan favorites in the series\u2019 uni\u00adverse: Claire Red\u00adfield and Leon S. Kennedy. They make up the sequel that\u2019s loved, though not with\u00adout its prob\u00adlems: Res\u00adi\u00addent Evil 2.<\/span>
\nRE2<\/span> takes off a few months after the events of the first Res\u00adi\u00addent Evil dur\u00ading in which Jill Valen\u00adtine, Chris Red\u00adfield and the rem\u00adnants of the Spe\u00adcial Tac\u00adtics and Res\u00adcue Ser\u00advice (S.T.A.R.S.) of the Rac\u00adcoon City Police inves\u00adti\u00adgat\u00aded a series of bizarre mur\u00adders that took place in the near\u00adby Ark\u00adlay Moun\u00adtains. The mur\u00adders took place in a man\u00adsion used for cov\u00ader\u00ading up ille\u00adgal sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic research con\u00adduct\u00aded by Umbrel\u00adla Inc. After defeat\u00ading Umbrel\u00adla\u2019s secret pro\u00adto\u00adtype know as tyrant, the S.T.A.R.S. was able to trig\u00adger the man\u00adsion to self-destruct, destroy\u00ading Umbrel\u00adla\u2019s evil plan and leav\u00ading for parts unknown. A few months lat\u00ader, Leon Kennedy starts his first day on the job as a mem\u00adber of a new\u00adly reformed Rac\u00adcoon City Police Depart\u00adment and dis\u00adcov\u00aders that the city has been over\u00adrun with the walk\u00ading dead. As he search\u00ades for the R.P.D head\u00adquar\u00adters, he runs into Claire Red\u00adfield \u2014 sis\u00adter of the miss\u00ading Chris Red\u00adfield. Now trapped in a city of walk\u00ading corpses, they must find a way out of Rac\u00adcoon City and stop Umbrel\u00adla\u2019s lat\u00adest plan for absolute power. <\/span>
\nGame\u00adplay of RE2<\/span> is like the first install\u00adment but with a twist. You have two discs ded\u00adi\u00adcat\u00aded to Leon and Claire. I found this to be strange at first but real\u00adized that they have dif\u00adfer\u00adent back\u00adsto\u00adries, which adds a lot of replay value. <\/span>
\nCon\u00adtrol of both char\u00adac\u00adters is sim\u00adple but requires use of the Dual Shock con\u00adtroller. Both char\u00adac\u00adters start off with reg\u00adu\u00adlar hand\u00adguns but can find var\u00adi\u00adous weapons such as shot\u00adguns, cross\u00adbows, and grenade launch\u00aders. No mat\u00adter which char\u00adac\u00adter you start with, I advise that you con\u00adserve your ammo; much like the first game, it\u2019s in short supply. <\/span>
\nLeon and Claire will meet two sub char\u00adac\u00adters \u2014 Ada Wong, a spy hire to recov\u00ader a sam\u00adple of the virus that turned Rac\u00adcoon City into a city of zom\u00adbies; and, Sher\u00adry Birkin, daugh\u00adter of the virus\u2019 researchers who is try\u00ading to find her par\u00adents. In addi\u00adtion to bat\u00adtling legions of zom\u00adbies, you\u2019ll be deal\u00ading with gigan\u00adtic spi\u00adders, zomb\u00adi\u00adfied crows and the lat\u00adest Umbrel\u00adla mon\u00adstros\u00adi\u00adty, Tyrant aka \u201cMr. X,\u201d who is hard to kill and can appear at any time. The puz\u00adzle ele\u00adments from the first game have returned, also hav\u00ading an enor\u00admous impact on play. <\/span>
\nThe graph\u00adics are OK<\/span> for the PS<\/span> One, but the hideous in-game cam\u00adera appears even more use\u00adless than a tum\u00adble\u00adweed as a car engine. The voice act\u00ading is OK<\/span> but feels forced dur\u00ading the cutscenes. The music is out\u00adstand\u00ading, meet\u00ading my expec\u00adta\u00adtions from Cap\u00adcom\u2019s sound team. The game still plays like a tank, which either appeals to your estab\u00adlished RE<\/span> sen\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties or is a mas\u00adsive turnoff. Take your pick.<\/span>
\n\u201cRes\u00adi\u00addent Evil 2\u201d con\u00adtin\u00adues Cap\u00adcom\u2019s for\u00aday in the sur\u00advival hor\u00adror genre. While a RE2<\/span> and RE3<\/span> remake were intro\u00adduced to a new gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion of fans, it\u2019s going to be awhile for me to ful\u00adly adapt to it. If you hear Mr. X\u2019s theme music \u201cX Gon\u2019 Give It to Ya\u201d by late rap leg\u00adend DMX<\/span>, either run and hide, or if you have it, present your rock\u00adet launch\u00ader to Mr. X; he\u2019ll kind\u00adly apol\u00ado\u00adgize and go about his day. That\u2019s the clas\u00adsic you\u2019re deal\u00ading with in Res\u00adi\u00addent Evil 2.<\/span><\/p>\n
