The fight of the century<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Who would win between Cap\u00adcom and SNK<\/span>?<\/span>
\nThat\u2019s the ques\u00adtion that was at the fore\u00adfront of every\u00adone\u2019s mind in the ear\u00adly 2000s. The rival\u00adry between the com\u00adpa\u00adnies was well known, and the streets were hot with love for their respec\u00adtive fight\u00ading game series. When Cap\u00adcom vs. SNK<\/span> was released, the ques\u00adtion was answered, though we still did\u00adn\u2019t know who was bet\u00adter defin\u00adi\u00adtive\u00adly. There\u2019s a sequel for that.<\/span>
\nWhat CvS did get right was the ini\u00adtial ques\u00adtion. Take some of the best and most pop\u00adu\u00adlar fight\u00ading game char\u00adac\u00adters from both com\u00adpa\u00adnies and pit them against each oth\u00ader. Mar\u00adquee SNK<\/span> names like Ter\u00adry Bog\u00ada\u00adrd, Mai Shu\u00adranui, King and Rugal Bern\u00adstein face off against Cap\u00adcom main\u00adstays like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Sagat. The full ros\u00adter has some\u00adone for every\u00adone from each com\u00adpa\u00adny. If you like grap\u00adplers, there\u2019s Zang\u00adief rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00ading Cap\u00adcom while Raiden shows up for SNK<\/span>. Love fight\u00ading teenage girls? You\u2019re cov\u00adered with Saku\u00adra and Yuri. The selec\u00adtion is a nice buf\u00adfet to choose from.<\/span>
\nBut then it gets a lit\u00adtle more inter\u00adest\u00ading. Each char\u00adac\u00adter is slot\u00adted into a one-to-four ratio cat\u00ade\u00adgo\u00adry. Heavy hit\u00adters like Aku\u00adma and Orochi Iori, usu\u00adal\u00adly hid\u00adden boss char\u00adac\u00adters in their respec\u00adtive games, are Ratio 4. Ratio 3 fea\u00adtures boss char\u00adac\u00adters such as M. Bison, Geese and Rugal. Ratio 2 is for the mid\u00addle-class fight\u00ader like Ryu, Ken, Kyo Kusana\u00adgi and Mai. In the low\u00adest ratio are light\u00adweights like Saku\u00adra, Ben\u00adi\u00admaru, Yuri and Dhal\u00adsim. The Ratio Sys\u00adtem allows mul\u00adti\u00adple com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtions so long as the ratio equals four. Build\u00ading your team is cru\u00adcial because of the pow\u00ader bal\u00adance impli\u00adca\u00adtions and their poten\u00adtial matchups.<\/span>
\nThe in-depth fight\u00ading sys\u00adtem is not with\u00adout its flaws, how\u00adev\u00ader. The place\u00adment of some char\u00adac\u00adters in the Ratio Sys\u00adtem is ques\u00adtion\u00adable and their movesets being pressed between EX<\/span> and reg\u00adu\u00adlar cat\u00ade\u00adgo\u00adriza\u00adtion is arti\u00adfi\u00adcial lim\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtions imposed at best. This is fixed in the sequel but here it\u2019s a prob\u00adlem that slight\u00adly affects game\u00adplay adversely.<\/span>
\nIn addi\u00adtion to the Ratio Sys\u00adtem there is the Groove Sys\u00adtem. A two-part func\u00adtion, the Groove Sys\u00adtem deter\u00admines how the char\u00adac\u00adters per\u00adform cer\u00adtain basic moves like rolling and dash\u00ading and how super moves work. Cap\u00adcom Groove plays a lot like Street Fight\u00ader Alpha 3 with access to Lev\u00adel 3 supers imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly with enough super meter built up. SNK<\/span> Groove plays sim\u00adi\u00adlar\u00adly to the Extra Mode in the King of Fight\u00aders series. Here, you only get access to Lev\u00adel 3 supers when your life meter is flash\u00ading, though you can charge your meter man\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly to gain Lev\u00adel 1 supers. There\u2019s a lot of strat\u00ade\u00adgy involved in choos\u00ading the right Groove and apply\u00ading its prop\u00ader\u00adties to your advan\u00adtage, which is a nice change of pace.<\/span>
\nCap\u00adcom vs. SNK<\/span> also gets its envi\u00adron\u00adment right. The game looks fan\u00adtas\u00adtic, with beau\u00adti\u00adful back\u00adgrounds of famil\u00adiar loca\u00adtions for both com\u00adpa\u00adnies. Of spe\u00adcial note is the SNK<\/span> graph\u00adic mode for Cap\u00adcom char\u00adac\u00adters. Shinkiro out\u00addid him\u00adself with the stun\u00adning and life\u00adlike art\u00adwork. I was\u00adn\u2019t super famil\u00adiar with his work before\u00adhand because I was\u00adn\u2019t an SNK<\/span> enthu\u00adsi\u00adast. But, you can con\u00adsid\u00ader me a devo\u00adtee as of this game because I fell in love with his art through his char\u00adac\u00adter portraits.<\/span>
\nAnd, along\u00adside the gor\u00adgeous envi\u00adron\u00adments is a won\u00adder\u00adful\u00adly nos\u00adtal\u00adgic sound\u00adtrack. Sure, there are some new tracks, but the meat and pota\u00adtoes are in the old\u00ader remixed tracks. The sound mix\u00ades well with the action, and there are quite a few bops to be had here. The sound\u00adtrack is one worth adding to the collection.<\/span>
\nCap\u00adcom vs. SNK<\/span> is a great start for the fran\u00adchise. It\u2019s built with vet\u00ader\u00adans in mind, but even as a new\u00adcom\u00ader you can find a char\u00adac\u00adter to learn and devel\u00adop. Cap\u00adcom banked on the unini\u00adti\u00adat\u00aded tak\u00ading the time to learn the back\u00adground of the char\u00adac\u00adters fea\u00adtured, and the result is worth tak\u00ading a spin 22 years after its ini\u00adtial release. No, the ques\u00adtion of who\u2019s the best was\u00adn\u2019t answered here, but it\u2019s one worth explor\u00ading in a top-notch release for the Dream\u00adcast fight\u00ading game library.<\/span><\/p>\n
