First time\u2019s a steal for Sly Cooper<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Ever since the now-Sony Inter\u00adac\u00adtive Enter\u00adtain\u00adment intro\u00adduced the PlaySta\u00adtion 2 to Amer\u00adi\u00adcan gamers in 2000, the news sur\u00adround\u00ading the new gam\u00ading con\u00adsole ranged from a strong suc\u00adces\u00adsor to the PlaySta\u00adtion name to the \u201cDream\u00adcast Killer,\u201d refer\u00adring to Sega\u2019s bow\u00ading out of mak\u00ading gam\u00ading con\u00adsoles for the home mar\u00adket. <\/span>While this was true, Sony was build\u00ading up a rela\u00adtion\u00adship with a lit\u00adtle-known gam\u00ading stu\u00addio called Suck\u00ader Punch to intro\u00adduce a char\u00adac\u00adter that would suc\u00adceed Sony\u2019s oth\u00ader well-known char\u00adac\u00adter, Crash Bandi\u00adcoot. The result: \u201cSly Coop\u00ader and the Thievius Raccoonus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Though we\u2019re jump\u00ading into the remas\u00adtered ver\u00adsion for the PS3<\/span>, the base game is a result of what would hap\u00adpen if you put anthro\u00adpo\u00admor\u00adphic ani\u00admals togeth\u00ader with Ocean\u2019s Eleven and Splin\u00adter Cell games. <\/span>The sto\u00adry is that Sly Coop\u00ader along with his team of Bent\u00adley Tur\u00adtle and Mur\u00adray Hip\u00adpopota\u00admus are try\u00ading to recov\u00ader the Thievius Rac\u00adcoonus, a scared book passed down in the Coop\u00ader fam\u00adi\u00adly that records skills and tech\u00adniques used to steal valu\u00adables from oth\u00ader thieves. <\/span><\/p>\n

At age 8, Sly was to inher\u00adit the book, but a group known as the Fiendish Five appeared that day, killing his moth\u00ader and father and tak\u00ading all the pages of the Thievius Rac\u00adcoonus, scat\u00adter\u00ading them across the world. Now old\u00ader and wis\u00ader, Sly, Bent\u00adley and Mur\u00adray begin their quest to recov\u00ader the Thievius Rac\u00adcoonus and destroy the Fiendish Five. <\/span><\/p>\n

The game\u00adplay takes time to adjust to, but it is sim\u00adple. You can either use the d\u2011pad or left ana\u00adlog stick to con\u00adtrol Sly while using the square but\u00adton to use his cane to strike, and the X but\u00adton to jump and dou\u00adble jump. Sly also gets some help look\u00ading around his sur\u00adround\u00adings with the help of the in-game <\/span>cam\u00adera by using the right ana\u00adlog stick. <\/span><\/p>\n

You pick up var\u00adi\u00adous objects such as coins, extra lives, and bot\u00adtled clues to cre\u00adate gear, solve puz\u00adzles, and learn new skills. Sly also has a spe\u00adcial sneak\u00ading tech\u00adnique that acti\u00advates in times of need. Fair warn\u00ading: Sly does not have a life bar. If he falls in water or gets hit by an ene\u00admy, you will lose a life. This adds to an already chal\u00adleng\u00ading set\u00adup. <\/span>The graph\u00adics are well drawn and appear crisp in every lev\u00adel while the cut scenes pay trib\u00adute to the Ocean movie series. Suck\u00ader Punch took great care in the lev\u00adel design, which made the game seem more like an ani\u00admat\u00aded movie. <\/span><\/p>\n

The music was ener\u00adgetic and relaxed enough for me to take my time play\u00ading espe\u00adcial\u00adly when Sly per\u00adformed a sneak\u00ading maneu\u00adver. The music was so top tier that I\u2019m sold on a sound\u00adtrack CD<\/span> to make a playlist. <\/span>Voice act\u00ading was excel\u00adlent with Kevin Miller as Sly, Matt Olsen as Bent\u00adley and Chris Mur\u00adphy as Mur\u00adray, adding to the theme of expert thievery. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sly Coop\u00ader and the Thievius Rac\u00adcoonus is a game that aims high and grabs replay val\u00adue and fun. If you want to escape bore\u00addom and pull off a caper with the Coop\u00ader gang with great rewards and brag\u00adging rights, jump into the adven\u00adture instead of try\u00ading to be a real thief. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a steal of a game.<\/span><\/p>\n
