Don\u2019t call it a come\u00adback: SFV<\/span> cleans up after launch<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to be intense\u00adly per\u00adson\u00adal for a minute: My life by the time of my mid-30s was not fun. It was a time of change, reboots in near\u00adly every area (part\u00adner, career, school again), loss and learn\u00ading from the mis\u00adtakes of my 20s. I\u2019m good now, but it wasn\u2019t with\u00adout strug\u00adgle and pain.<\/span>
\nAnd the old\u00adest entry in the fight game can com\u00admis\u00ader\u00adate with me because they know what that time is like. Street Fight\u00ader V is sit\u00adting at the bar with me, drown\u00ading its sor\u00adrows because it and the series, too, went through it in its mid-30s and like me is doing much bet\u00adter than one could expect after the struggle.<\/span>
\nSFV<\/span> didn\u2019t start out as mag\u00adi\u00adcal as it has become. The launch was mired in prob\u00adlems and things just weren\u2019t where they should be. The game\u2019s sto\u00adry mode didn\u2019t launch along\u00adside the actu\u00adal game and the net\u00adcode was ter\u00adri\u00adble. But what a dif\u00adfer\u00adence time makes. <\/span><\/p>\n

The sto\u00adry, while still not as engross\u00ading as past entries, has improved. It moves the SF<\/span> world mythos along and makes sense if you know the series\u2019 past. Tak\u00ading place between Ultra SFIV<\/span> and SF3<\/span>: 3rd Strike, Char\u00adlie wakes up in a tomb and is guid\u00aded to steal an item from Guile, which would help him defeat M. Bison. Third Strike boss Gill dri\u00adves the plot over\u00adall, tying up the loose ends between SFII<\/span> and the endgame of 3rd Strike, which is the known end of the series sto\u00adry\u00adline-wise. I love that Gill is tied into this as it always seemed like he was out of place as the end of SF<\/span> lore. I nev\u00ader ful\u00adly under\u00adstood why he was the boss of that tril\u00ado\u00adgy of games except as some\u00adthing new for Cap\u00adcom to try because every\u00adone was sick of M. Bison by that point.<\/span><\/p>\n

While I\u2019m impressed with the sto\u00adry, I\u2019m more impressed with the pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion. Much like its pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsors, SFV<\/span> looks gor\u00adgeous. The back\u00adgrounds are beau\u00adti\u00adful as are most of the char\u00adac\u00adter designs. Even the menus look good. Some\u00adtimes, when I start the game, I take a sec\u00adond just to mar\u00advel at the main menu and how the modes are pre\u00adsent\u00aded. And let\u2019s talk about the sound\u00adtrack for a sec\u00adond. The music is all-around amaz\u00ading. Every time I get in-game, I dis\u00adcov\u00ader anoth\u00ader track that I feel like I haven\u2019t pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly heard, and I fall in love all over again. It\u2019s so good that it\u2019s worth track\u00ading down and adding to your music collection.<\/span>

While I love the game, there is a big sec\u00adtion I don\u2019t care for: the play style. I\u2019m an Alpha purist, specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly SF<\/span> Alpha 3. That\u2019s my Street Fight\u00ader style and has been for years. How\u00adev\u00ader, SFV<\/span> plays kind of stiff \u2014 a lot like SFIV<\/span> \u2014 and that\u2019s hard for me to grasp. It\u2019s playable, obvi\u00adous\u00adly, but it\u2019s not my style of Street Fight\u00ader play. And that\u2019s OK<\/span>. It real\u00adly doesn\u2019t detract from the game\u2019s abil\u00adi\u00adty to shine or be Street Fight\u00ader, but it\u2019s not my per\u00adson\u00adal pref\u00ader\u00adence to play. It is a lot of fun to watch being played pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal\u00adly, though.<\/span><\/p>\n

Street Fight\u00ader V has come a long way as the most cur\u00adrent entry in the series. Game ele\u00adments have got\u00adten a lot of pol\u00adish, whether it\u2019s fix\u00ading the net\u00adcode or expand\u00ading the ros\u00adter with old favorites and skins allud\u00ading to long-dor\u00admant char\u00adac\u00adters. It\u2019s now the flag\u00adship game it should have been, and it\u2019s still rul\u00ading the fight game roost while every\u00adone waits for the announced Street Fight\u00ader 6. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some\u00adtimes, with the strug\u00adgle comes the rewards and SFV<\/span> has more than earned its life fight money.<\/span><\/p>\n
