The best: Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom is a masterpiece<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

First of its name is crossover com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion every\u00adone needs<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom is where I start\u00aded. My broad\u00ader Mar\u00advel edu\u00adca\u00adtion beyond the X\u2011Men? Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom. My love for the Ver\u00adsus series? Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom. I learned these lessons through the epony\u00admous Ver\u00adsus title, and I\u2019m rich\u00ader for it. MvC is six-but\u00adton perfection.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom is tech\u00adni\u00adcal\u00adly the third game in the Ver\u00adsus series, not count\u00ading X\u2011Men: Chil\u00addren of the Atom and Mar\u00advel Super Heroes. This is where the mag\u00adic has been per\u00adfect\u00aded. Loose\u00adly adapt\u00ading Mar\u00advel\u2019s Onslaught sto\u00adry arc, MvC brings togeth\u00ader some of Mar\u00advel\u2019s biggest names that had yet to appear and the wider Cap\u00adcom uni\u00adverse. Some big Mar\u00advel names like Mag\u00adne\u00adto and Colos\u00adsus reap\u00adpear in assist roles while new\u00adcom\u00aders like Ven\u00adom and War Machine join the fray, and Cap\u00adcom mines the depths of its cat\u00ada\u00adlogue to bring in char\u00adac\u00adters such as Strid\u00ader, Mega Man, Mor\u00adri\u00adg\u00adan and Cap\u00adtain Com\u00adman\u00addo. The ros\u00adter is an inter\u00adest\u00ading mix and good call because it intro\u00adduces a lot of favorite faces and it tries hard to avoid retreads. <\/span><\/p>\n

Also, a good deci\u00adsion is the refine\u00adment of the two-char\u00adac\u00adter team con\u00adcept. MvC plays like a dream and char\u00adac\u00adters feel sub\u00adstan\u00adtial. The game\u00adplay flows well, and moves and supers feel bom\u00adbas\u00adtic, as they should in a Ver\u00adsus game. Pick\u00ading up the game is easy thanks to the Auto Mode and moves feel smooth. There are still some moves that are hard to per\u00adform (look\u00ading at you, Eter\u00adnal Slum\u00adber), but over\u00adall, the game plays with a bet\u00adter han\u00addle on fight\u00ading than its pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsor, Mar\u00advel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter.<\/span>
\nAnoth\u00ader area where MvC excels over the pre\u00adced\u00ading game is the pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion. The game looks great, with large col\u00ador\u00adful sprites and gor\u00adgeous back\u00adgrounds. Char\u00adac\u00adters ani\u00admate smooth\u00adly and look great as rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtions of their respec\u00adtive series. Equal\u00adly as impres\u00adsive as the graph\u00adics is the sound\u00adtrack. MvC has one of the best sound\u00adtracks in the series, and it\u2019s not because there are remix\u00ades of exist\u00ading char\u00adac\u00adter themes. The music fits the game mood well and the announc\u00ader \u2014 Sal\u00adly Cahill of Res\u00adi\u00addent Evil fame \u2014 adds to the crossover atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

While MvC isn\u2019t per\u00adfect, it\u2019s close. I don\u2019t have too many com\u00adplaints beyond dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adty pac\u00ading issues in the arcade lad\u00adder. The final two fights before fac\u00ading boss Onslaught are bru\u00adtal, and the dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adty could have been tweaked just a tad. But that is not enough for me to ding the game heavily.<\/span><\/p>\n

What I appre\u00adci\u00adate the most is the obvi\u00adous care and atten\u00adtion to detail with MvC. MvSF is unmit\u00adi\u00adgat\u00aded lazi\u00adness while MvC got seri\u00adous again about the lega\u00adcy of the series. The ros\u00adter for main char\u00adac\u00adters and assists feels thought\u00adful, the pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion is fun and engag\u00ading and the game\u00adplay still holds up well. It might not be played as much as its direct sequel in Mar\u00advel vs. Cap\u00adcom 2, but I still find myself return\u00ading to pull off Duo Team Attacks fre\u00adquent\u00adly. MvC is the most mar\u00advelous of the series.<\/span><\/p>\n
