X\u2011Men start the par\u00adty right with first Ver\u00adsus entry<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re an old head video gamer like us here at Gam\u00ading Insur\u00adrec\u00adtion, you know that Cap\u00adcom and Mar\u00advel was THE<\/span> pow\u00ader\u00adhouse cou\u00adple in video games dur\u00ading the 1990s. Start\u00ading in 1993 with The Pun\u00adish\u00ader arcade game, Mar\u00advel and Cap\u00adcom estab\u00adlished the foun\u00adda\u00adtion of the mod\u00adern com\u00adic book and ani\u00adme fight\u00ading game scene. Dur\u00ading the \u201990s I stum\u00adbled across a game that helped build the path to Cap\u00adcom\u2019s and Mar\u00advel\u2019s glo\u00adry: X\u2011Men: Chil\u00addren of the Atom.<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on the 1993 X\u2011Men Fatal Attrac\u00adtions sto\u00adry\u00adline, Mag\u00adne\u00adto, with the help of the X\u2011Men\u2019s most for\u00admi\u00adda\u00adble foes, plans to launch an elec\u00adtro\u00admag\u00adnet\u00adic pulse on the Earth, caus\u00ading dis\u00adrup\u00adtion to its mag\u00adnet\u00adic fields, leav\u00ading human\u00adi\u00adty in a Dark Age. With Earth\u00ad\u2019s future in the bal\u00adance, the X\u2011Men must bat\u00adtle once more.<\/span><\/p>\n

COTA\u2019s graph\u00adics are crisp and clear thanks to Cap\u00adcom\u2019s CPS<\/span>\u20112 board, which is revered in devel\u00adop\u00ading fight\u00ading games for arcade cab\u00adi\u00adnets. I felt with the CPS<\/span>\u20112 board, it was easy for me to know which char\u00adac\u00adter I was using and who was the oppo\u00adnent. The back\u00adgrounds had plen\u00adty of col\u00ador that was bal\u00adanced instead of placed hap\u00adhaz\u00adard\u00adly, and sprites were nice\u00adly drawn and beau\u00adti\u00adful to look at. The music is excel\u00adlent, fit\u00adting in with the clas\u00adsic Cap\u00adcom aes\u00adthet\u00adic and cre\u00adat\u00ading a nice vibe for fighting. <\/span><\/p>\n

My dis\u00adlikes of COTA<\/span> are few but can be frus\u00adtrat\u00ading. Cap\u00adcom, while known for hav\u00ading inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive fight\u00ading game con\u00adtrols, need\u00aded to refine COTA\u2019s con\u00adtrol scheme. It\u2019s hard to get invest\u00aded as a new\u00adcom\u00ader. The auto\u00admat\u00adic block\u00ading, while seen as help\u00adful, can be dan\u00adger\u00adous and unhelp\u00adful to new\u00adcom\u00aders also. And, the biggest mys\u00adtery I had was why Cap\u00adcom was aggres\u00adsive\u00adly push\u00ading a Street Fight\u00ader char\u00adac\u00adter into a X\u2011Men game, forc\u00ading me to believe Aku\u00adma is an offi\u00adcial part of X\u2011Men lore? Cap\u00adcom could have let Aku\u00adma sit this one out, even if he had just been in Super Street Fight\u00ader II<\/span> Tur\u00adbo. There were more Street Fight\u00ader games com\u00ading, obviously.<\/span><\/p>\n

X\u2011Men: Chil\u00addren of the Atom has con\u00adtributed to the estab\u00adlished part\u00adner\u00adship between com\u00adpa\u00adnies with leg\u00adendary prop\u00ader\u00adties beloved the world over. While the future of Mar\u00advel and Cap\u00adcom is uncer\u00adtain, it\u2019s safe to say that from this union, fight\u00ading game and com\u00adic book fans ate well in these \u201990s fight\u00ading streets.<\/span><\/p>\n
