Ah, Franken\u00adstein. This leg\u00adendary hor\u00adror mon\u00adster has come a long way from the time his sto\u00adry was writ\u00adten by Mary Shel\u00adley. One of the most pop\u00adu\u00adlar hor\u00adror mon\u00adsters of all time, Franken\u00adstein moved from mod\u00adern writ\u00adten adap\u00adta\u00adtions to var\u00adi\u00adous movies, a car\u00adtoon ver\u00adsion for a break\u00adfast cere\u00adal and final\u00adly in video games such as Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia. Dur\u00ading his video game tenure, Franken\u00adstein has been the sub\u00adject of a Bandai game in which he is the main vil\u00adlain, mak\u00ading a dig\u00adi\u00adtal name for him\u00adself. Franken\u00adstein: The Mon\u00adster Returns for the NES<\/span> was his big break.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nIn Franken\u00adstein: The Mon\u00adster Returns, in an unknown part of Europe the leg\u00adendary mon\u00adster has been res\u00adur\u00adrect\u00aded thanks to light\u00ading that struck his bat\u00adtered tomb\u00adstone in an ancient ceme\u00adtery. Ful\u00adly restored, Franky and his band of min\u00adions attacked a near\u00adby vil\u00adlage, and he kid\u00adnaps Emi\u00adly, the daugh\u00adter of the vil\u00adlage elder. With Emi\u00adly and all the land in great per\u00adil, it is up to an unknown hero to answer the call to final\u00adly end Franky\u2019s reign of ter\u00adror and make the land pros\u00adper\u00adous again. <\/span><\/p>\n

The graph\u00adics of the game are typ\u00adi\u00adcal of com\u00admon 8\u2011bit action-adven\u00adture games. Although I\u2019ll give Bandai cred\u00adit for attempt\u00ading to match var\u00adi\u00adous scenes to the orig\u00adi\u00adnal nov\u00adel, cer\u00adtain sec\u00adtions made me think I was play\u00ading a jum\u00adbled mix of Bat\u00adman, the orig\u00adi\u00adnal TMNT<\/span>, and Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia. Con\u00adtrols are also like Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia, which is wel\u00adcome famil\u00adiar\u00adi\u00adty. How\u00adev\u00ader, this scheme can be prob\u00adlem\u00adat\u00adic because pre\u00adci\u00adsion is not abun\u00addant here. You will miss plat\u00adforms and it\u2019s the fault of the con\u00adtrol design, not you. <\/span><\/p>\n

The music is appro\u00adpri\u00adate\u00adly chill\u00ading and hor\u00adror themed. How\u00adev\u00ader, some\u00adtimes it tries to do too much. Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnate\u00adly, this is a weak spot because the music will try its best to out\u00addo Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia, and it\u2019s nowhere near that lev\u00adel of audio masterpiece. <\/span>
\nFranken\u00adstein: The Mon\u00adster Returns is a campy B\u2011movie game that gave an icon\u00adic mon\u00adster a chance to shine. Franken\u00adstein would be sec\u00adond place to Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia since no oth\u00ader Uni\u00adver\u00adsal mon\u00adsters got their own game and man\u00adaged to out\u00adshine Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia and Franken\u00adstein. Franky\u2019s mis\u00adad\u00adven\u00adture, while not quite as good as Castl\u00ade\u00adva\u00adnia, is still able to scare up a good time.<\/span><\/p>\n
