COLUMBIA, S.C. — Challenges, of Richland Fashion Mall in Columbia, S.C., closed in 1997.

Opened in 1988 at the same time as the mall’s opening, Challenges was tucked away in the complex layout of the mall. Though the arcade had modern-at-the-time releases such as Mortal Kombat 4 and X-Men: Children of the Atom, the arcade was not well attended and once the mall began to decline along with the advent in home consoles and video games, the arcaded shuttered its doors.

Graveside services were held at Richland Fashion Mall.
