Pics from arcade road trip

I finally got around to adding the pictures from the road trip that the hubby and I took a while back. So far, there are two that I really wanted to show. They are the TMNT 4 machine and the Metal Slug 2 machine.

Here they are:

We discovered Metal Slug 2 off the side of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. It was in working order, it seems.

We found a TMNT IV arcade machine over in the kiddie section. This is a rare machine.

I have a couple more that I hope to put up in a little while.

A small GI road trip

The husband and I found ourselves with a Friday night free and decided to venture up north to see about arcades. We found something sizable and worth revisiting.

In our journey, we decided to visit Fun Fun Fun Amusement Centre in Fayetteville. It’s about 30 to 45 minutes away and it’s easy to find once you’ve been once. Going in I wasn’t expecting much. Most arcades these days aren’t what they used to be in the heyday of arcades in America, and that’s saying that they’re even open.

The place was in a shopping center with a movie theater, which was surprising. Not the movie theater part, but the fact that it was in a shopping center. That’s unusual from my perspective. I surveyed the surroundings and went in, expecting … a little something. What I found (among other things):

1. House of the Dead 4
2. Guitar Hero Arcade
3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2
4. Capcom vs. SNK 2
5. Tekken 5
6. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
7. Metal Slug 2
8. Virtua Fighter 4

That’s just a small offering. In the kiddie section, J-Vegas found an oldie that I’d always heard of but never seen: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. I have the SNES cartridge (one of my first SNES games) but I had never played the arcade version, which has some differences.

The sticks on MvC2 and 3rd Strike machines were great. For the first time in 2 years, I played MvC2 on an arcade machine and played like I was top-level competition. I easily pulled off combos and Tiger-kneed AHVBs (Air Hyper Viper Beams with Cable for the uninitiated — look for a later post on MvC2 tactics and discussion). I ran up a couple of win streaks, my longest being 13 wins with Sentinel/Doom/Cable. A couple of matches with J-Vegas were close and I wish I could have recorded them. I felt comfortable on the sticks for the first time in years and I thoroughly enjoyed the competition there. The other players were nice and I even dropped some knowledge for a player who was apparently just starting out with fighting games. That felt good. ^_^

I have cell phone pictures so I will see if I can get them up on a later post.
